Local Candidates 2010: Pasay City

Click here for election results for Pasay City

Politically, Pasay City and Makati City are almost the same. Also, it should be remembered that both outgoing Mayors Peewee Trinidad and Jojo Binay were suspended by the Ombudsman years ago, but stood their ground in their respective City Halls, together with their supporters.

In this year’s elections, both cities are almost the same as well: more than the usual two tickets are running for local posts. But in the case of Pasay City, an astounding five complete slate of candidates are participating, seriously threatening the re-election bid of Mayor Peewee Trinidad. Prominent families in the city race include the Bayonas, Calixtos and Panaligans.

Names in italics are incumbent candidates running for re-election.

Wenceslao “Peewee” Trinidad is in his 2nd term as Mayor. Greg Alcera is a former Vice Mayor (1998-2001), and is currently Trinidad’s Chief of Staff. Cong. Jose Antonio Roxas is seeking a 2nd term.

Tony Calixto is the outgoing Vice Mayor of Pasay. His sister, Imelda Calixto-Rubiano, is a 2nd District Councilor running for Representative. Arnel Arceo is an outgoing 2nd District Councilor as well.

Connie Dy is a former Pasay City Representative, and ran for Mayor in 2007, but lost. So did Allan Panaligan, who ran for Congressman. Panaligan is the city’s mayor from 2004 to 2007. Marlon Pesebre is a 1st District Councilor.

Noel “Onie” Bayona is a well-known 2nd District Councilor.

The BIGKIS line-up comprises of names relatively new to the residents of Pasay. Ricardo Santos is its mayoralty candidate, with Leopoldo Calixto as his running-mate. Rica Hortaleza is the daughter of Ding Santos.

  1. Correction: Emi Calixto-Rubiano is NOT Tony Calixto’s wife. (Thus, the name “Calixto-Ruibiano.” They’re siblings.)

    • Salamat po sa concern, but we highly appreciate if you mention the corrections.

First off, I’m from Makati, and I base my information mainly from articles and other sources from the Internet. And I try my best to verify all these info. So please, bear with us and help us in verifying and correcting info in these entries, instead of doing that. It hurts a bit. Thanks, anyway.

    • I saw the partial unofficial results for Pasay City earlier this morning in GMA7. Tony Calixto is leading the Mayoralty race, followed by Connie Dy and Peewee Trinidad. I don’t know if this is still the situation at this time, however.
